Deliver agentic-research workshop (4-day department course, Sept 2026)

Goal

Deliver a 4-day practical workshop on the agentic research workflow (BIDS + DataLad + Snakemake + projio + worklog) to the department in September 2026. Each participant leaves with a BIDS+DataLad copy of their own dataset, a working Snakemake pipeline, a configured projio + Claude Code setup, and one task in their workflow now agent-assisted.

Why this goal matters

  • Forces a coherent public version of Arash's living workflow, which has been improving privately without external pressure.
  • Anchors the handbook timeline — without this deadline, handbook work drifts indefinitely behind TAC and manuscript pressure.
  • Starts community for projio + worklog, which the Deep Research synthesis identifies as the survival path for single-creator research software (cf. Quantomatic warning).
  • Recruits early adopters / collaborators from the department.

Success criteria

  • ≥ 6 participants register and complete days 1–3.
  • ≥ 5 participants present on day 4 with a working artifact applied to their own data.
  • Workshop materials publishable as teaching/agentic-workshop/2026-09/ website + book + slides; reusable for a 2027 iteration with deltas only.
  • ≥ 1 participant adopts projio for ongoing research work post-workshop.

Milestones (placeholder — refine in workshop workspace once provisioned)

  1. Workspace provisionedteaching/agentic-workshop/ exists, registered in worklog, Quarto project scaffolded. (Target: 2026-05)
  2. Announcement finalized & sent — title, dates, capacity, prereqs, registration. (Target: 2026-06)
  3. Syllabus drafted — per-session learning outcomes, hands-on exercise specs, pre-workshop setup checklist. (Target: 2026-07)
  4. Day 1–3 materials drafted — lecture qmd, handout qmd, exercise marimo notebooks, datasets. Manim opening animation rendered. (Target: 2026-08)
  5. Dry run with 1 volunteer — full day 1, gather friction notes; iterate. (Target: mid 2026-09, pre-breakout)
  6. LSM Future Skills breakout — 15-min teaser talk + workshop pitch at LMU Biomedical Center. (Target: 2026-09-22, fixed; see docs/log/task/task-arash-20260511-lsm-future-skills-ai-breakout.md)
  7. Workshop delivered — days 1–4. (Target: late 2026-09, post-LSM-breakout — candidate windows Sept 24–27 or Sept 29–Oct 2, decide by announcement finalization)
  8. Post-mortem captured — what worked, what didn't, deltas for next iteration. (Target: early 2026-10)

Dependencies

  • Handbook content backbone — many lecture slots reuse handbook chapters as primary source. If handbook chapters lag, workshop materials must be authored standalone in the workshop workspace and back-ported later.
  • TAC III + manuscript writing (competing claims on May–July) — manage via focus() weekly contracts.
